Collaboration

Working together to achieve what cannot be achieved alone is a critical skill in today’s complex, dynamic, and global workplace. Collaboration requires people to see the value of, and work through, the disagreements sparked by differences in perspectives, competencies, access to information, and the strategic focus within a company. In our workshops, we introduce skills and tools to enable working constructively through these differences and clashes so that creative solutions are developed and wise trade-offs among competing objectives are made.

Changing behavior requires changing people’s MENTAL MODELS

Debilitating Assumptions

  • Disagreements and conflict should be avoided
  • My goals and objectives are opposed to those of my counterpart

Empowering Assumptions

  • Different views and perceptions can be a catalyst for creative solutions and innovation
  • My goals and objectives on the surface may conflict with my counterparts, but there are most likely interests underneath that may be shared

…which enables more effective ACTION

Embracing the shifted mindset, participants become more skillful collaborators by:

  • Discussing and exploring interests of the involved parties versus being positional
  • Using standards and criteria to guide on the merits of decision-making
  • Crafting choices that will be attractive to colleagues and counterparts
  • Generating creative solutions and making wise trade-offs that satisfy multiple competing goals and priorities
